Girls Inc. of Wayne County invites you to participate in a free public talk as part of the Girls Inc. Got Girls? Giving Back series.
Mother, author, educator and girl expert Lyn Mikel Brown provides a talk to help parents & adults support girls. With “girl power” used by marketers of music, fashion, TV and toys to mean the power to shop and attract boys, girls are encouraged to choose accessorizing over academics, prefer sex appeal over sports and value boyfriends over friends.
This talk provides information, skills and strategies to help girls resist media pressures and express themselves. Information is relevant and appropriate for parents, teachers, mentors, older girls (middle school & up) and adults.
Weds. April 9, 7pm in the Loose Lecture Hall, LBC, Earlham College
“For anyone who teaches, works with or wishes to support girls in our society and for every parent of a daughter who wants to give her child a legacy of meaningful possibilities instead of a prepackaged world of inhibiting stereotypes." -William Pollack, author of Real Boys: Rescuing Our Sons from the Myths of Boyhood
Special thanks to the Wayne County Foundation for their support of this event as part of the Strong, Smart and Healthy program!
