President – Valerie Shaffer, President, EDC of Wayne County
Valerie Shaffer became President Economic Development Corporation of Wayne County in November of 2012. Previously she served as senior project manager for the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Indiana’s lead economic development organization where she managed economic development projects for an 11 county region in East Central Indiana. Prior to her time at the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Shaffer spent seven years with the Economic Development Corporation of Wayne County holding various positions but mostly working within the area of business development. Shaffer is a lifelong resident of Richmond and graduated from Indiana University East in 2005 where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She has also completed the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute, a respected training program for economic development professionals. Locally Shaffer is a member of the board of directors for the Wayne County Foundation, the Wayne County Convention and Tourism Bureau, and Girls, Inc.; is a member of Rotary International; serves on many higher education advisory boards; and participates on several working committees. She has recently become a member of the Indiana Economic Development Association board of directors in Indianapolis. In 2016 Shaffer was named 1 of 50 of the nation’s top economic development professionals by Consultant Connect.

With a background in finance and accounting, Jackie worked as an accountant and office manager for a CPA firm located in Gainesville, Florida. After relocating to Richmond in 2001, she became executive assistant to the CEO at Reid Health. Jackie is involved in many different organizations including Professional Administrative Assistants, and has been a co-chair for the annual meeting for the previous five years. She was the organizer for Reid’s United Way Campaign for many different departments, including administration. Jackie has been a member of the Girls Inc. Board of Directors for two years.
